I feel so sorry for the town of lake lure. The actions of the assistant fire chief are reprehensible. He threatened a helicopter pilot with arrest if he continued rescue operations. Meanwhile he was accomplishing nothing in terms of rescuing people out of his reach. The man the helicopter pilot was forced, under threat of arrest, to abandon, eventually scaled down the mountain without the assistant fire chiefs help, and low in behold at the bottom of the mountain across the raging River was the team that threatened to arrest the pilot who could have returned him to safety in three minutes. Instead of a safe helicopter ride the experts under the command of the assistant fire chief threw a rope across the river and pulled him to the other side. Imagine… The lake lure town manager defended his actions. She should be removed from office and the assistant fire chief immediately fired. Poor leadership.
